A powerful car bomb exploded outside a district court in Islamabad on Tuesday, killing at least five people and injuring 13 others. According to state-run media, most of the victims were bystanders and people attending court hearings at the time of the explosion.
Witnesses reported that the blast, which was heard miles away, damaged several vehicles parked near the court complex. The area was quickly cordoned off as police and emergency teams rushed to the scene. Islamabad police stated that investigations are underway to determine who was behind the attack, though no group has claimed responsibility so far.
Pakistan has been witnessing a renewed wave of militant attacks in recent months. Earlier on Tuesday, security forces foiled an assault on an army-run cadet college in Wana, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where a suicide car bomber and several Pakistani Taliban members attempted to take cadets hostage. The incident highlights the country’s ongoing struggle with insurgent violence along its western frontier.
Authorities in Islamabad have tightened security in and around government buildings and judicial complexes following the explosion. For now, officials have confirmed that the injured are being treated in nearby hospitals, while an investigation team has been deployed to analyze the nature and source of the explosives used.
